Human Performance Laboratory (LPH)

The equipment in the Human Performance lab contributes to research in several areas of knowledge, as it allows for the assessment of a large number of variables related to neuromuscular function, posture, and dynamic balance. Equipment in this lab may be used in research and clinical teaching, as well as in providing services to the community, benefiting individuals, ranging from those severely handicapped to elite athletes.

Cardiorespiratory Performance Assessment and Research Lab (LABCARE)

UFMG's Cardiorespiratory Performance Assessment and Research Lab (LabCare) is a 65-m² facility. It is located on the first floor of UFMG's Physical Education, Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy School, room 1104. LabCare provides the conditions for assessing several respiratory and/or cardiovascular parameters in individuals in various age brackets, at rest and/or during exercise. 

At this lab, projects related to the analysis of ventilatory and metabolic parameters for specific populations are being developed, as is the evaluation of physical therapy procedures and therapeutic resources, such as programs for cardiorespiratory conditioning, pulmonary rehabilitation, specific respiratory muscle conditioning, pulmonary reexpansion techniques, and non-invasive ventilation. 

Currently, projects are being developed with healthy individuals or with populations that exhibit disorders, such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), Parkinson's disease, or post-cerebrovascular accident patients. LabCare is equipped with the necessary HVAC to perform tests in which temperature control in the environment is required.

Movement Analysis Lab

The equipment in these two labs allow for the assessment of a wide variety of parameters related to neuromuscular function, posture, dynamic balance, and human movement analysis. The equipment is used in both research and clinical teaching, as well as in providing services to the community, benefiting individuals ranging from those severely handicapped to elite athletes.

NEUROLAB

NEUROLAB

At this lab, studies are conducted on disabilities in adult individuals with primary nervous system disorders. Researchers who work at this lab have expertise in neurofunctional physical therapy in adults. These studies have contributed to the advancement of the knowledge boundaries regarding functionality and neurofunctional physical therapy

Pain, Inflammation, Rehabilitation, and Aging Study Lab (LADIRE)

This lab was created to allow for the development of research related to the following areas: 1) Studies on the release and dosage of inflammatory mediators and their influence on muscular performance and changes in motor control in the aging process; 2) Studies on pain measurement instruments and the inflammatory process in motor disorders; 3) Checking the effectiveness of applying several therapeutic resources used in the treatment of pain and inflammation in young adults and the elderly; and 4) Ultrasound analysis of the lumbar and cervical muscular activity in young adults and the elderly who suffer from chronic pain.

In 2003, a partnership was established involving LADIRE, the UFMG Pharmacology Department’s Inflammation and Pain Lab, and the UFMG Pharmacology Department’s Immunopharmacology Lab. These labs have offered some of their equipment, materials, and test animals to conduct research projects.

In 2008, these labs' physical facilities were restructured using resources obtained from different funding agencies. In 2009, new equipment was purchased with resources originating from research project grants from funding agencies. In 2010, with funding from PROF, a generator was purchased to ensure greater safety to the storage of biological samples. In 2011, specific equipment was purchased to assess the risk of falls in the elderly (Physiological Profile Assessment - PPA). In the last four years, the laboratory continued to be modernized and expanded, through the purchase of research equipment and material, with funding provided by CNPq and FAPEMIG.
